New Mexico Tech Workshop Draws Inventors, Investors
SOCORRO, N.M. – Emerging inventors could access resources and support – from intellectual property information to patent advice to venture capital leads – at a workshop aimed at providing a platform for networking and exchange of ideas. The sixth annual Inventors & Entrepreneurs Workshop, hosted by the New Mexico Tech Office of Innovation Commercialization (OIC), brought together more than 100 inventors and investors from Socorro County and beyond for the two-day seminar held April 13-14, 2023, on the Socorro campus.
Keynote speaker Ed Fries, former Microsoft vice president and Xbox video game system creator, inspired the audience with anecdotes from his college days at NMT during the mid-1980s and his life as an “accidental entrepreneur.”
NSF Telescopes Image M87’s Supermassive Black Hole and Massive Jet Together for the First Time
Scientists studying the supermassive black hole at the heart of the M87 galaxy have revealed the origins of the monster’s powerful jet and imaged the jet and its source together for the first time. What’s more, the observations have revealed that the black hole’s ring is much larger than scientists previously believed.
Ground broken for fiber optic at Midway
Ground broken Thursday for a project to bring high-speed internet to Midway Elementary.
The fiber project will connect Midway and San Antonio Elementary with high-speed fiber, making it easier for students and teachers to get their work done.
NMT Alum Receives Outstanding Young Professional Award
SOCORRO, N.M. – Cristopher Montalvo, PE, a 2018 NMT alum, will receive the inaugural Reidar Bjorhovde Outstanding Young Professional Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Education Foundation at a national conference in Charlotte, North Carolina April 12 to 14.
Montalvo, a Panama City, Panama, native who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a structural engineer at Dekker Perich Sabatini, an architecture firm in Albuquerque. After earning a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from NMT, Montalvo earned a master’s in civil engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He served as president of his local American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
student chapters at both institutions. Full story
